This project was an exercise in creating a surfaced 3D model with separate realistic parts.

 

Before jumping into solidworks, I very quickly sketched out some ideas of what I wanted the keyboard to look like and establish the overall form.

 

This CAD screenshot highlights a complex model with a relatively high part count.

 

After completing the 3D model, I then chose a font for the keys and personally designed the key configuration.

These Adobe Illustrator screenshots show my process and a few rejected typeface layouts.

 
 

I could then combine everything and render it in Keyshot 3D.
